Origins of Theatre

Greek theatre_edited.jpg

I believe that the 'Origin of Theatre' branches off from both Richard Schechner's Theory of Transformation and Else's Theory of Spontaneous Generation (storytelling). This is because, to me, theatre is being able to communicate and unite people with the embodiment of the story being told. The Theory of Transformation brings the concept of traditional rites and transforming the ones on stage, along with uniting people. While Else's Theory of Spontaneous Generation introduces the notion of storytelling, which is fundamental in theatre. It also contributes the idea of a Greek man named Thespis, who manifested a character and became the story itself. Furthermore, as the different principles combine, whether to tell stories in accordance to their beliefs or to express their ideas, we get an element that I believe was the earliest variant of theatre.
