This week, we continued to work on the Mini Theorist Project, and we plan on presenting it this Friday. As I have continued research, I was able to find more interesting facts about Boal's views on theatre. His most prominent idea is that there is always an oppressed figure and an oppressor in theatre. Initially, I thought this put a black and white perspective on the world, as it creates an antagonist in every scenario. Then, I learned more about his family of techniques called the Rainbow of Desire and saw how this technique can be used to explore the individual. With his theory, even the protagonist (good guy) can have an oppressor in themselves. This is the same for a person who is deemed to be an antagonist. Boal's techniques proved to be interesting methods in exploring a person, dissecting their fears and desires.
I have also begun reading "The Sea Gull" by Anton Chekhov for this upcoming play reading report assignment. So far, I enjoy the idea of having a play about people involved in theatre, along with their lives outside of it.
