Mini Commedia Dell'arte project and continuing research

For the beginning of the week, we had an assignment relating to Commedia Dell'arte. We were supposed to study one character and stay in that character as we walk around the room. I decided to research the female lover, who is very melodramatic. She is naive, childish and focused in her own world. Her iconic poses included the "Oh no" pose in which she has one hand near her face and the other one is stretched out. Her lazzi are mostly childish actions, as she would often have temper tantrums. The activity itself didn't work out, mostly due to it having to be through zoom. Though it didn't work out completely, I was happy to have still explored Commedia, and my research on it has led me to find parallel to my theatre tradition.

As for my Theatre Tradition research, I have decided to focus on reading the books that I borrowed through the UW library. So far I have gone through "Korean Mask Dance" by Cho Dong-Il and "An Introduction to Korean Traditional Performing Arts" by Nam Sang-suk and Gim Hae-suk. The books have a thorough explanation of the history of Talchum, along with the distinction of the style within the various regions in Korea. The books also analyze Talchum in relation to other ideas such as those of Aristotle and Plato, on the topic of "catharsis"
